Abstract: The present study aims to investigate the effect of sports participation on reducing the level of depression among adolescents attending some sports centers in the city of Maghnia. It also seeks to identify their level of depression, examine differences in depression levels according to the intensity of sports practice, determine the nature of the relationship between sports participation and depression, and explore the extent to which physical activity contributes to predicting depression levels among adolescents. The researcher adopted the descriptive correlational approach, as it is considered the most appropriate method for studying relationships between variables as they exist in reality. The study was conducted on a random sample of 100 male and female adolescents attending several sports centers in Maghnia during the 2025–2026 academic year. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), developed by Aaron Beck and translated into Arabic by Abdul Sattar Ibrahim, was used to measure depression levels among the participants. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings of the study revealed the following: - There are statistically significant differences in depression levels between adolescents who practice sports regularly and those who practice sports irregularly, in favor of regular practitioners. - There is a statistically significant negative correlation between sports participation and depression levels among adolescents; that is, the more adolescents engage in sports activities, the lower their depression levels become. - Sports participation contributes significantly to reducing depression levels among adolescents, as physical activity was found to be an important predictive variable in explaining variations in depression scores. These findings highlight the importance of physical activity as both a preventive and therapeutic means of promoting adolescents' mental health. They also emphasize the need to encourage regular participation in sports within sports centers and educational institutions due to its effective role in reducing depressive symptoms and enhancing psychological and social adjustment.
