Abstract This thesis, entitled "Irony and Rebellion Against Reality in Contemporary Arabic Poetry: Mohamed el-Eid Al-Khalifa and Adham Adel as a Case Study," examines two prominent phenomena in contemporary Arabic poetry: irony and rebellion. These two concepts serve as artistic vehicles to express the rejection of reality and its complex social, political, intellectual, and existential dimensions. This study seeks to uncover the manifestations of irony and rebellion in the poetry of both Mohamed el-Eid Al-Khalifa and Adham Adel. The research concludes that irony in Al-Khalifa’s work is deeply linked to reformist consciousness and the call for change. Conversely, in Adham Adel’s poetry, it manifests as black comedy (dark irony) that reflects existential anxiety and a sense of absurdity and alienation. Furthermore, rebellion is clearly demonstrated by both poets through their rejection of the prevailing reality. Ultimately, this thesis establishes that irony and rebellion formed two fundamental aspects of contemporary poetic consciousness, contributing significantly to expressing the concerns and issues of the Arab individual, despite the differing intellectual backgrounds from which each poet emerged.
