    Investigating the Detective Story through Comparing Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘’The Murders in the Rue Morgue’’ and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘’ The Mystery of the Boscombe Pool’’ش

    Abstract This research explores the origins and development of the detective story by comparing Edgar Allan Poe’s The Murders in the Rue Morgue and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Mystery of the Boscombe Pool. The study argues that Poe, often regarded as the father of detective fiction, laid the foundational elements of the genre through his creation of C. Auguste Dupin and the use of rational analysis and deductive reasoning. In contrast, Conan Doyle refines and popularizes the genre through the character of Sherlock Holmes, who embodies and expands upon Poe’s methods. By analyzing narrative structure, characterization, and investigative techniques, this thesis highlights how Doyle imitates and builds on Poe’s literary model, transforming the detective story into a widely recognized and enduring form. The comparison illustrates both continuity and innovation within the genre, emphasizing Poe’s foundational role and Doyle’s significant contributions to its evolution. Both of these seminal figures have left a profound legacy in the development of modern detective fiction. الملخص يستكشف هذا البحث أصول وتطور القصة البوليسية من خلال مقارنة رواية إدغار آلان بو جرائم القتل في شارع مورغ ورواية السير آرثر كونان دويل لغز بركة بوسكوم. يجادل هذا البحث بأن بو، الذي يُعتبر غالبًا مؤسس الأدب البوليسي، وضع الأسس الأولى لهذا النوع الأدبي من خلال ابتكاره لشخصية "سي. أوغست دوبان" واستخدامه للتحليل المنطقي والاستنتاج العقلي. في المقابل، قام كونان دويل بصقل هذا النوع الأدبي وتعميمه عبر شخصية "شرلوك هولمز"، التي تجسد وتوسع منهج بو. ومن خلال تحليل البناء السردي، وتطوير الشخصيات، وأساليب التحقيق، يُبرز هذا البحث كيف قام دويل بمحاكاة نموذج بو الأدبي والبناء عليه، محوّلاً القصة البوليسية إلى شكل أدبي معروف وراسخ. وتُظهر المقارنة جوانب الاستمرارية والتجديد داخل هذا النوع، مع التأكيد على الدور التأسيسي لبو والمساهمات المهمة لدويل في تطوره. وقد ترك كلا الكاتبين إرثًا عميقًا في تطور الأدب البوليسي الحديث.
